Default What wood and finish is this table? Any help appreciated

    Hi Guys,

I just purchased a lovely dining table for my mother. I intend to get the slight chipping on the top edge repaired and I'm not sure what wood it is made from and if it's a veneer inlay top? The table is very heavy though?!Thought I'd ask the experts, Any help would be appreciated.

I've attached two photos as well.

    Cheers in advance.

French polish is my bet can't tell about the timber to much reflection in shot. Pretty sure that it's veneered. Look underneath to see what's on the bottom of the table top.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for your response. Here are 2 other photos, hopefully the wood is more clear in these. Thanks

The mouldings and carvings look a bit machine made to me, so it may be a modern lacquer finish of some sort.

Can you run a concealed area with 'soft finish reviver' or some meths (metho) to see it it affects the finish. If not I'd be looking for a hard finish of some description. But that could mean almost anything I'm afraid.
