Waterproofing sand/cement grouting
Need to waterproof my balcony grouting which is in good condition, no loose grout, but a few small cracks. It has tiles (in good condition). What material should I use? Got quote from Megaseal to supply and treat sealant for almost $1,600, but I think it is excessive for a 17m2 balcony.<O</O
Thanks for any idea.<O</O

Hi Treff, there are quite a few good chemical sealers around, I used to use one in air conditioning plant rooms, I think it was "Chemstick" or something like that. All you did was paint it into the joint or crack or onto the surface you wanted to seal in my case usually just concrete floors. I think Bondall has a product also "Bond Stick and Seal or someting like that (saw it Bunnies the other day) ask at your local hardware Bondall/Bondcrete products are at most hardwares. Tile shops should also have similar sealers, I think there are also epoxy sealers.

I did tile water proofing myself for shower recess. It is pretty simple and straightforward process. I used two types of sealer. One you can paint on both grout and tiles (forgot the name, found in Bunnings, cost ~$50), it will penetrate into the grout and tiles and seal any hairline cracks. Then I paint another grout sealer (<$10) over the grout only. The second sealer forms a plastic film over the grout and prevents water penetration into grout.
Depending on how large your cracks are. You may need to use a grout saw to remove some grout and regrout some parts.
total cost for DIY is about $100.
