Hows my thinking for a new door in brick?
Hi all
I am thinking of inserting a new single door into an internal brick wall. So I have a list of questions which I have tried searching this forum and googled but to no real joy.
The sequence as I see it goes like this:
- Send wife and kids out for the day
- reveal brickwork beneath plaster at the top of the wall where lintel should go
- grind, chisel, cut out mortar through brick to width of lintel
- Whats the best method for removing this line of mortar?
- slide lintel into place
- How is this fixed into place. Mortar?
- Are there regs for how far into the brickwork either side of the door space the bar needs to go?
- Cut door space out beneath lintel and remove bricks down to slab
- clean up edges
- insert wood framework
- drill and fix to brick with screws/spagetti
- How do you fix sill to concrete slab?
- How do you fit the door framework to the steel lintel?
If you have additional points or observations please let me know.
Many thanks
