    Default Which Jigsaw?

I have a mate who builds wooden boats & I have arranged to swap him a trailer for a good power tool.

I offered to get him a bandsaw but he wants a jigsaw, which one do you recommend?

He will mostly use it for cutting curves in ply.

He already has a Triton Work Centre for cutting the framing etc.

Cliff, from what I can see at Ideal Tools site they are two different bodies, the PS is a barrel style whilst the PSB has the handle over the top and is wee bit shorter

    Hi Cliff.

Also have a look at this review of the Trion jigsaws. It shows both models side by side for comparison.

I think the the barrel grip version has the handling advantages, as you can even use it on the underside of the material and watch teh blade track the scribe line on top.

    Cliff,

You need to use this one to appreciate it. 'Like a knife through butter' is probable a cliche but it's all I can think of.

i tried both and i bought the barrel handle....it is more comfortable in different positions.... here in the states the d handle is more popular, the barrel handle allows for better underside cutting.

    Hi Cliff,
I have the Trion barrel grip and like it a lot. However, it can be a pain to see where you are going, particularly when the chip guard is attached. A number of people seem to recommend the Bosch over the Trion, partially for this reason. (and some of these are real Festool Addicts.) Perhaps you should try both out and also see what yer mate needs and wants as far as function.

    Regards,

    Rob

Here's the go, ya dope! They are both great, but it depends what fits best or feels best in yer hand (or, in this case, yer mate's hand). Why not offer him his choice and let him decide?

[P.S. As LGS says, the Bosch is also good. In fact, I bought the Bosch # 1591 (D-handle) and have been very satisfied. And I am one of those fanatics! ]

    Cheers,

    Bob
