GNR Stirling Locomotive
Hi Guys
This is my new build - I reckon it's beautiful.
It will have full footplate controls. Detail will be as best as I can make it.
Really looking forward to it
The Main drive wheel will be 300mm diameter, so it works out about 1/8th scale. Still might build bigger but have to consider where I will put it.
Take care all
Regards
Keith

I look forward to this build. Glad you are starting it in the warmer months as the cab does not look that inviting in winter.
With the large driver and decorative splasher this should be an interesting build for you. I can imagine that you will go to town on the cab as it is highly visible.
Every success and enjoyment from smoke box to tender.

She looks a real beauty mate.
I can see why your so keen to get started on the build.
I'm sure the end result will be nothing short of "Stirling".
Sorry Charlie it just wouldn't seem right not to kick the build off without a pun.
Cheers
Trev.

Dalboy, thank you for the video. With the large driver, the engine is slow speed, but will tend to slip on starting.
I for one would hate to be on the footplate in inclement weather.

Hi All,
Well - I think I have a new lease of life. I was up at 6.00am (Sorry Dallas - I am retired) and I did calculations and checking my equipment to ensure that I could make all the components.
The main drive wheel was my greatest concern. My wood lathe will only take up to 298mm before it hits the bed.
Therefore the scale of my loco is totally dependant on the size of the (datum) drive wheels. These wheels will be 295mm diameter finished.
Have scaled up a line drawing and it is attached (comparing it to my 4-6-2).
My scale will be 1/8th to original whereas the tank loco was 1/7th scale. I reckon that this gives me a decent scope on the detail I can put into this loco. I have been on Youtube a bit and there is quite a bit on this loco and have been able to pause and scan photos of components. That along with the similarities on many components to the real locos at Queenscliff should enable me to do justice (with some artistic licence) to this beautiful piece of machinery.
The wheels will be my first part of the build as distinct from the chasis on the tank and Lion locos. Still got some work for Cathie yet though
Regards
Keith
