Woodfast Model 150 Universal Linisher & Disc Sander
Not sure if you would regard this as an Antique machine but they are no longer made and assume are 20 - 30 years old? Does anyone have much information on these machines?
woodfast 150 sander - Google Search
Both linisher and sanding disc are fitted with adjustable/tilting tables that allow mitre or angle plate slide ways to be utilised.
Machine footprint - Width 70cm x Depth 80cm x Height 110cm
Height of linishing surface - 93cm
Belt size - 1330 x 100mm
Sanding Disc diameter - 250mm
Weight - approx 90kg
Quality guarding that incorporates simple drive belt speed changing / linisher belt change and dust extraction.
They look to be a industrial machine being a 3-phase machine so geared to industry professionals from what I can tell.
I did find these below - historically sold and current (Gumtree):

I have one, it’s very well made and runs nicely. I find it handier than I expected, probably gets used four or five times a day. A lot of them have been coming out of schools and TAFE colleges.

I seem to remember something about an OHS decree that a disc and belt sander wasn’t safe.
Had to be seperate machines ie a disc sander or a linisher but no combos.
So the schools and TAFES have been offloading them.
The Woodfast was another carryover from the Hyco range.
There was probably info on them amongst the dirty paper I posted to Bueller in WA.

Well I bit the bullet and bought one of these. I am going to see how it stacks up against my Wadkin BGY (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f299/...ghlight=wadkin) I bought off H ^^^

What I did like about it is it's probably the 1/3 of the weight of the Wadkin and a little more compact. It also seems to have really good dust collection. The guy I bought it off spend a good sum of money to convert it to 240v single phase too - so has a brand new motor, switch + safety switch. He was a metal worker but sounds like he never used it after its conversion. There are a few nice features I like about it:
- It has two speeds (can't seem me switching speeds thou)
- It has a fence for the belt sander

Why did you get when you have the Wadkin?

Toomnus I 'thought' it would be a good smaller machine BUT what I've just realised is the Wadkin's belt sander folds up and overall the foot print is actually roughly the same. It's also 240v single phase and I have yet to install 3-phase in my new place but thats not a big deal I just need to get a sparky mate around to do it (have 3-phase for the air-con so just a bit of stuffing around).
H, I've got 4 big bandsaws but two are going as soon as I get time to assemble them and advertise them.

This style of woodfast combo sander started with Hyco, which I think copied/licensed the design from Walker Turner. The original design continued when Woodfast took over Hyco sometime in the early 1960's. Not sure when Woodfast updated the design, however I would think yours would be from the 70's or 80's or even later with that style of sticker on it. BunyaPine has a thread on here with the restoration of his HYCO version. Somewhat different to yours.

I agree with Gaza, you will find most of Hyco's machine designs are a derivative of the walker turner patterns. If you want to check out some of the photos of my sander combo check @bunya7730 on instagram (one of my earlier posts). I'm a self confessed hyco nerd so have one of each of their machines from their 60's catalogue

My 3HP, 1m x 150mm sander had two speeds but I reckoned the faster speed was sometimes too fast and sometimes the slower one was not slow enough so I installed a VFD.
Now I run it from ~20 to 65 Hz. Really slow is handy when installing a new belt so I can safely adjust the belt tracking at slow speeds without the belt slamming into the motor. Then slowly increase the speed up and make small adjustments. Variable speed also allows for changes to rate of stock removal. The VFD is hooked up to a pressure sensor which is connected to the dust extraction ducting machine side of its best gate. The means the sander will not start unless there's sufficient dust extraction vc gum which means the DC is on and all the right blast gates are open.

Yeah OK I see what you mean - the previous owner was a metal worker (retired so it never actually saw any real work) so it going lat out was probably a good thing. Anyway the disc probably runs a bit too fast and can, if your not quick, burn an edge. I've used it a few times since getting it and built a nice mobile trolly for it to move it around the workshop.

Hey mate, yes, take a look at: https://www.woodworkforums.com/f299/...ghlight=wadkin
I have just sold the Woodfast sander - sold within hrs of posting, had a heap of interest!
I thought I would sell the Wadkin but in taking a long hard think I came to the conclusion the Wadkin is a bit bigger (not that I need the size it offers) - could have gone either way with these machines - they are both good!

I can't quite remember - BUT I think it was around the $750 mark from memory. I did sell it for more than that but then again I drove up to Harvey Bay from Brisbane and back which took me all day
