The RS is running
Got the replacement inverter this morning and it is running.
Bit noisier than my Nova but the belt tick is nice. No vibration - passed the R2 (nickle) test.
Only one problem is the belt change. Changing between the 3 lower speeds is fine.
Changing to the highest speed causes the belt to slip off the pulleys. Belt too tight or too loose?
With the variable speed drive I do not think I will use it but it would be nice to have it working as it should.
Tomorrow I will be turning the first piece.
Cheers
Phil

My RS is an early'sh one with the window to view the belt change, I've never really found it easy to change the speed, it makes it harder because my handle is snapped at the usual place so I cant get much leverage. there must be a nack to lift the motor the correct amount before trying to shift the belt. I have noticed Wadkin improved the mechanism from just a piece of flat bar to a nice smooth round bar with a gib strip which makes a very smooth action. I don't suppose you will need to do it much with the vfd. You could just leave it in low and increase the speed for loads of torque.

On my original RS I fitted an old mechanical variable speed unit.
I would moove the belt to the correct pulley for roughing unbalanced stuff with the variable speed at its slowest.
I was able to crank the speed up with my foot as things got into balance.
My current RS is a dual speed motor but I may investigate a VFD once I get it up and running.
Wallace, when I get back to Oz I'm looking at casting up a new gear lever as mine is also snapped off.
Any interest in them from your end of the world?

I would be interested definitely. My RS was the first machine I restored and I plan on redoing it one day. I've been slowly getting a lot of the extras like all of the tools for the cross slide and a set of wadkin chisels, it took me years to find the tool rest for when the gap is removed and also a centre steady for long turning.
