    Lance

I can't do today's meeting, but speaking with Matt I have put my hand up for Friday 29 May (next week) providing I can get my head around the technology and there is a meet.

    All the best for today.

No problem Paul. Short of something unexpected happening, there will be a meet next week too.

Today's discussions revolved around grinders, CBN wheels, band saws and making do with what we have. Oh, and lathes.

    Till next week...

Yes, thank you Lance for organising the Zoom.

It was good to put a face to a name and good to catch up with Matt (Simplicity) and Tony (NCArcher) again. I will have to be more prepared on future occasions and bring more props into the house (Can't do that in Canberra I hear). Matt put me to shame giving panoramic views of the steel castle and all therein. I guess that is where a mobile phone has it all over even a very smart carrier pigeon. At least I am indulging (reluctantly) in pay wave now instead of inserting courtesy of the Virus and in attempting not to contact hard surfaces. I am being dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming despite my best efforts. Resistance is futile!

Our expensive photocopier once again refused to work so I was unable to print up any pix of the work on the handwheel as it had progressed. Some info here:

Not sure if I still meet the criterion “loose”
But if I have no prior engagements, I may be available .

    Cheers Matt.

Sorry for the late response to the suggestions provided in trying to make dowels for use in my drawbored M&Ts.

I added several intermediate sizes to my plate, and relieved the back.

When trying the lathe as suggested by orraloon it would work for some "blanks", but more often than not the tortional forces would tear the blank when reducing in size. It also took a while figuring out a method of holding a 7x7 mm blank.

Then I recalled a thread by, I think, Auscab about creating dowels, so had a crack at creating a quasi pencil sharpener jig. That was a great success. I could create a dowel in about 20 seconds, including mounting in the drill. Very fast and consistent.

    .

That left me with plenty of stock which I could cut to length as needed.

Thanks for all the advice. Without the prompt at lateral thinking I would have spent half the day trying to hammer stock through my make shift plate.
