I have a question regarding noggins...

I have pulled off the existing fibrous plaster from the walls of my timber frame house in order to add insulation and the existing surface was in a bad way.

I am moving the door to another wall and therefore need to block up the existing hole. The ceiling height is approx 3100mm. What I found strange was that when I pulled off the plaster was that there are no noggins between the studs. Most information I have been able to find points to the use of noggins when framing. The existing frames are hardwood (I presume jarrah (97x51mm approx)) so my presumption is that noggins are used today as pine is the framing material of choice and doesn't have the strength of jarrah?

My question is... When I frame out the existing door hole should I add nogins and why/why not? (I will be adding a bottom plate and central stud to the doorway)
