Borer damage
Acquired some redgum squares recently, one had some damage at the end that I knew about and intended to cut off anyway so I didn't look too hard at that end. Unfortunately what I neglected to see in the damage area was what I believe is Lyctine borer holes. 2-3 mm although not very deep. I cut in to it to check, and it appears on a few mm deep. Absolutely no 'dust' or anything fresh so I am wondering if the borers have been and gone.
Im not 100% how old the redgum is, guessing a few years maybe longer. i bought them from a woodworker as surplus material so who knows, but was told it was dried. I'm not too overly concerned about the borer damage to the redgum as I intended to cut it off regardless, but this is my first experience with the pest and what I am worried about is damage to the other timber I have next to it!
Everything else I have is well dried, I believe these little buggers only attack green wood? Is that orrct? Also is there any way to determine if the buggers have infected the other posts I purchased? No holes at all I the others and again no 'dust' evident. Is there anything else I can look for?
