    Default Mothers day Present

SWMBO is painting some watercolours for the Canberra Botanical Society's exhibition this year. She generally paints on a table top. but her back was suffering.
A tabletop easel was the answer. So my 4 year old commissioned me for the job

Fairly simple design. It's all Red Cedar (I love Red Cedar), which makes it light to move around. It folds completely flat, and will raise to about 90 degrees.
Finished with shellac (I love shellac) and BLO.

Once again .... sorry about my awful photography.

    Hi,
Very nice. I hope it does the trick as the painting isn't too bad either and should be done in comfort.
    Regards
    Hugh

Very nice (as is the painting, too). You and the 4yo should both be up for some brownie points there.

    Hi Mike,

Red Cedar is hard to find in Canberra.
I have family on the Mid North Coast. My father is a wood turner and is always collecting Cedar when he can. I get a bit off him.
Boutique Timbers in Rollands Plains is worth the drive if you're up on the Mid North Coast.

I use a lot of recycled Cedar from old furniture.

The main board on this easel came from a slab I got from Boutique Timbers. It cost me about $60.
You can see the slab in this thread.

I'm mostly a hand tool guy. But a band saw is pretty vital to what I do (mainly restoration).
