Default floor tiles on wood floor boards

How do i go about laying floor tiles onto my floor boards. The boards have been polished in the past but are becoming deteriorated.

Any special glue or do I just stick the tiles straight on to the wood.

    Thanks

The standard way is to use ceramic tile underlay nailed to the floorboards with ring shanked nails. James Hardie have ceramic tile underlay, called exactly that (6mm fibre cement sheeting) with the nailing centres marked I think 150mm centres with 100mm centres around the edges. Then use a flexible adhesive such as Davco Ultraflex.

I think you can also get a special adhesive for direct sticking to floorboards but feels less solid to me underfoot.

what you have said is quite correct but the underlay should be painted with tile primer before laying the tiles to stop the moisture being sucked out of the adhesive too quickly and the adhesive failing

Arms, James Hardie actually say the CTU is pre primed for this reason:

"Pre sealed sheets increases cement based tile adhesive working time by 50%"

but I usually also prime to seal the dust and give a better bond
