    Default Help with Firefox

I realise that this post probably belongs in Computers, but as we are being asked ever so subtly to install and use Firefox, I thought it would be handy to have it here.

I have installed Firefox on my laptop as the missus does not use it much, and she hates it when I change/update things on the desktop. If I cant get Firefox to at least look like IE8 I'm going to have to run two browsers , something I really don't want to do.

My question is: Can I have my bookmarks/favourites pinned to the left hand side of the window the way it is in IE8.

    You can indeed!

From the menu, select View, Sidebar and select Bookmarks.

Ctrl B will do it too .

I've now installed Firefox on both the laptop and desktop PC's and things are proceeding relatively smoothly..................except.
Firefox did not import all my favourites/bookmarks. I tried importing them again and it imported the same ones and left out the same ones it left out on the first import. Is there a limit to the number of favourites/bookmarks that you can import. I've read all the info regarding importing settings from IE and can't see any reference to the problem I'm having.

Don't worry, I've got it sorted. I exported my bookmarks from IE as a html file and imported that file into FF .

    Good work GJ!
I have been using FF for years with very few problems. I find it a lot faster than IE.
May I make one recommendation and that is the us the Add-on "Adblock Plus". Through the menu go to Tools/Add-ons and the search for 'Adblock Plus' and follow your nose. It stops those annoying pop-up advertisements that some web sites push down to us from time-to-time.

Go to the top bar and right click. A drop down pops up (?) select what you want.

Place your cursor above the Navigation Toolbar and right click and select Menu Bar. For some reason it is not visible by default.
