Clear finish for Vic Ash
I'm looking for an oil to seal Vic Ash that will not yellow the timber. Any suggestions on something that will leave it the normal grey colour?

An oil that doesn't yellow the wood? Sorry, I really don't know of any. The best non-yellowing finish I've found is UBeaut's White Shellac.
cheers

Thank you for the replies
Thank you Wongo for the suggestion of water based poly. I now realise all oils will yellow with age (Ruffly and Echidna). I have tried to leave all the orange stuff downstairs but had not noticed the gradual yellowing of the furniture in the living area.
About the colour, Echidna, what would you call it? Not brown surely.

Hi Carry Pine,
I've just had some Vic Ash steps built in my place and they are a very light(pale) whitish/yellowish colour. They're quite nice but I would have preffered to have Sydney Blue Gum to match the floors but the dollars just wouldn't add up.
Which leads me to ask, what does everybody use/suggest for finishing these stairs? - they're high use so it will need to be a fairly robust finish and I don't have a spray pack so It'll need to be brush/wipe 'able also. The floors are being finished in a high gloss poly so I don't know if I should try to match this or not??
Any suggestions or thoughts would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Something that is non-slip or an area on the stairs that is non-slip. Don't know about you, but it hurts!! when you fall down on the stairs.
