Hylite 80 Anti-sapstain group buy?
i am going to be milling some hoop pine and would like to keep it stain free but i don't need 4000l of Anti-sapstain and it costs to much to have it sitting around just in case.
so is anyone else interested in coming in and splitting a drum with me.
it comes in a 20l drum and that makes 4000l of the final liquid. it costs about $600 per drum so the more people we get the cheaper it is each.
what do u say guys surly i ain't the only one who needs it?

Carl I've been in contact with the fella who milled for Cliff about buying some from him, although I haven't done it yet, posting dangerous goods has put me off a bit, but having some in Brissy to buy would be a lot easier.
I'd only be looking for 2l as I don't have a need for it, but wouldn't mind it on hand if/when I might need it?I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Remember, it can be used for timber other than Hoop Pine, anything at all that gets blue stain, my favourite would be Mango.

How well does it penetrate Cliff?
I had Mango and treated it with Borax. Stopped the stain on the surface, but when I cut it open, the stain started at ~10mm from the surfaceNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Yup, you have to treat the timber as soon as it is cut, you CAN'T leave it til tomorrow or the next day.

Hmm, I treated it the next day, bit too stuffed the day of milling. I am surprised it gets in that fast, there was certainly no signs of stain when I Borax'd the Mango. The advantage of Borax is that it stops the stain and keeps the bugs away - the next day there were 2 holes in it from the bugs starting on it.

That's what I thought, and have experienced
The trunk was still in the ground. We milled most of it on one day, the remainder the weekends after. When I cut it up on the bandsaw, there were no signs of blue stain.
Good question, it certainly works well for the bugs. On the bigger pieces I only applied it to the cut faces. Also attached is a photo of one of the 20mm slices I treated on both sides, the mix was cold so it didn't penetrate so far, but same resultNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

I agree treat ASAP , I slabbed a red cedar (my first on the lucas) and within the day specks of blue had appeared, mind you the day was hot and very humid and after washing all the sawdust off it took ages for the free water to dry, perfect conditions for the development of the stain but after drying off and being painfully moved into garage and the surface drying some more the stain stopped progressing but still I didnt anticipate the stain on the red cadar would happen so fast, it suprised me.

Sorry to disagree Carl, but the latest hoop I did, slabbed the whole bloody 5 logs, some out to about 700mm wide and the bloody stuff turned in 4 days You can imagine - really Peeeeeeeed me off!!
I'm with Cliff, cut it, an spray it same day, if need be cut less so you have time to spray the days cutting. If I have the stuff I won't leave it again. cut and sprayI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

It may not help much, but you can put me down for 2 litres. Better to have it and never use it, then need it and not have it.

anti stain
Hi Carl, I could prolly go some as well, I dont cut as much as u guys but its dissapointing to put in the effort of slabbing timber (mango or whatever) and have it end up stained, I tried borax and didnt really seem to do much as far keeping the stain out and stopping the bugs, lorsban certianly keeps the bugs at bay, nasty stuff tho.
I will be down in Bris for xmas so depending on when u plan on getting the anti stain might be able to pick some up then??
Pete.
