Repair a split door jamb/frame
Hi,
I need to repair a door jamb/frame that has split vertically along the grain where the hinges screw in. I guess the door has been pushed back about 180 degrees. This is an 100+ year old frame with a solid pine door, so I do not want to replace anything. A previous owner seems to have put in even longer screws, but they have pulled out also.
I thought about drilling out the old holes and replacing with a dowel , then clamp and glue it all together and then re-drill hinge holes and rehang the door. Is this a good approach?
Thanks for any advice,
Andy
