Gun Stock

Hi Guys.
I am making a gunstock from Blackwood and Tassy Oak.
I was going to finish it with Birchwood Casy True oil. Small bottle lots of $$$$$.
Is there another oil that would be the same or better?
Would you recomend shellac under the oil?
What would bring out the colour of the wood?

I didn't think truoil was that expensive ..I think I paid about $10.00 - $12.00 for a bottle .It goes a long way
