alpine ash table: raised grain
Hi there, I purchased a custom made alpine ash table about 6 months ago. It was finished with oil, which was my preference, and over the first 3 months I regularly rubbed the top down with steel wool and applied organoil wax, according to instructions. The table gets daily use from from our 3 small chidren. It has no permanent marks but the grain is raised from water/spills, with black spots in places where water has remained overnight. I was hoping that several months of regular finishing would provide a smooth and relatively water impervius finish. How can I improve the finish with oil/wax. I'm also concened that the timber may not have been properly seasoned as the grain is quite course, is that possible?
