    Default Greetings from Virginia

My name is Jim, and I've been a woodworker for about 40 years. Problem is that, when I was employed by the United States Air Force and then as a Oracle Database Contractor, I didn't have much time to do woodworking! It's a wonder I got as much done as I did. Now that I'm retired, I don't know where all the time goes, but I spend most of my free time woodworking or playing golf.

My original interest was making furniture. I've made everything from a 6' high by 3' wide display case for my wife's Hummel collection to a small Shaker stool for the kitchen. I took a class in using hand tools earlier this year and am working at completing an appropriate set of tools and making a workbench. Since I retired, I've also become interested in scrolling (mostly compound-cut objects and scrolled pictures - animals, birds, scenery) and lathe work (especially pens). Although I make things for family and friends, I also make items for several craft fairs each year.

I'm looking forward to "using" the site and hopefully will contribute something one of these days.

    Welcome Jim
I met many keen wood workers along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
You have some nice local timber to play with. I look forward to seeing what you are making.
    cheers
