Bottle Jack
Hi Guys
I need to do some leveling on the old shack, and am need of a bottle jack that would do the job.
Any idea's where one can get their hands on these ??? A mate had one years ago, and all I remember about it was how bloody old it was (worked well those).
,Many thanks
Steve
ps. How do know what size (weight) jack I should get ?? This has got me buggered as well !!!!

Bottle jacks are readily available, any jack shop will have them obviously but I would check out a 4WD centre considering Cairns may not be big enough for a specialist jack shop (niche market). 4WD places should have at least up to 10,000Kg jacks which would be heaps to level a house, probably overkill, 6000-8000Kg would do the trick, the bigger ones are very heavy, a smaller one would be easier to use.
Cheers

If you are jacking just one post at a time, you'll get away (Note: 'GET AWAY') with an ordinary car screw jack. It's a very rare stump indeed that has more than a ton of load on it.
You should be able to hire jacks pretty easily, but I suspect a trip to SuperCheap will give you something to sell at the end of the project.
Pity you don't live closer, I've got a couple under the house somewhere.....
Cheers,
P

Steve,
Up here we can get all kinds of bottle jacks at the local auto parts store. They seem to cost about $1US per 500 Kg of lift. They're so ecconomical that I'll buy one for the truck so that I don't have to mess with the Ford jack that came with the truck.
I've used a small 1500 Kg jack to move a floor joist or two to stop squeeks.

If u have quite a number of stumps to level, i would be going to a hire shop to see if u can get ur hands on a 10Ton porta-power with the air over hydrolic foot pedal to control the up and down for u, the same thing that a panel beater uses to straighten cars.
My farther and i used one recently to level 2 houses in one weekend with even a lil time to spare. Once u do it this way, u will never want to see a bottle jack again, so easy and so fast! It's Ripping Time!!!
