Default G'day with a concrete question

G'day everyone, I have a 45 square metre slab which is getting a pergola over 3/4 of it next week. The concrete has been down for about 12 months and I need to seal it but have no idea with what to seal it with. I don't really want to paint it as paint never seems to last. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Cheers

is there a particular reason why you want to seal it.
what i mean is ...dust..acid...oil...rising damp...or just to make it look better

It gets quite dusty and slippery. There are also about 4-5 small holes starting to appear about the size of a 5 cent piece. Not sure whether sealing will help with this?

    Question

G'day cackstar and welcome to the workshop.

I love cencrete questions! Not keen on abstract questions.

Seriously, the holes sound like the tops wearing off air pockets. Nothing to worry about.

Acid wash, water blast and seal with a commercially available sealer or concrete paint You might want to sprinkle sand over the sealer or paint to counteract slipperiness.

i assume the slab is a solid concrete slab not a topping slab. i say this because topping of slabs are always tricky things and you get all sorts of strange things going on to the finnish. it sounds more like what artme has mentioned though.

there are driveway and stone sealers availible from most places but i think you should add the non slip additive designed for paving paint. it is glass based and will not stain the finnish.

i have done a few garage floors like this with 4 to 1 bond crete mix and additive. it works great and gets rid of that dust problem. i wouldn't use the bond crete idea outside though. it would wash off in no time.

    good luck with your project
