Backyard potato plot
An elderly pensioner wanted to dig his potato plot as he had done for many years, but his arthritis was causing him such a great deal of pain and it was proving impossible for him to do so.
His son, who would have normally helped, was in jail and therefore could not do the digging.
The pensioner wrote to his son:
Dear Son,
As you know I am 75 and have arthritis. I am finding it impossible to dig the potato plot this year. I know if you were here you would do it for me.
Love Dad.
A couple of days later he received a letter. It read:
Dear Dad,
For heavens sake do not under any circumstances dig the potato garden, as that is where I buried the bodies.
Love Son.
At 7am the next morning the police arrived and proceeded to dig up the whole potato plot. On finding no bodies they apologised and departed. As they did so another letter arrived from the pensioner’s son.
It read:
Dear Dad,
Under the circumstances this was the best I could do! Please go ahead and plant the potatoes!
Your ever loving Son.
