Hello and hi from Lammy

Am new to site as a poster but have enjoyed reading some great sounding advice to date. Its comforting to read that other folks have the same issues as I do with general know how!

On to business....I am half way through a large patio project (hip/gable roof ) as an add on to the house. Much heart ache and frustration getting council to approve the use of recycled timbers (had to get them certified). So much for doing your bit to help the environment.

Anyhow, I've just got to get my head around the rafter/Ridge/hip measurements and then its the roof. With the roof, I plan to use colorbond and I have approved plans to use 70x35 battens (mgp10). The stuff I've read suggests that this is a standard size however my Q is can I substitute these for 50x50 hard woods (Jarrah/Karri)?

Any one done something similar?
