    Default Wadkin’s Disc Sander Fence

    Hi,

Thanks to a great forum member, I’ve managed to acquire a mitre for my Wadkin disc sander. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the pin to affix it to the table. Can someone please take some photos and measurements so I can get one made.

    Regards,
    Raymond

Is it a drop in pin or spring loaded? The hole in the mitre looks smaller in the photo than the table.

Or is it a fixed pin?

Raymond, I’m somewhere tween Margaret River and one of those ‘up’ towns over here in WA.
When I get home next week I’ll measure mine or if you like turn the bits up for you.

Raymond, I’ve dug out my Mitre gauge (which I’ve never used) and done some measuring up.
As I remember from the one at the Uni there should be a steel strip about 5” long which locates on the table with 2 steel dowels. This is shorter than the slot under the Mitre gauge (7 1/4” approx) so you could move the gauge and timber back and forth to lessen any tendency for heat burning on the timber.
I can’t find this steel strip so I reckon that a couple of dowels would work ok as their centres at 4 3/16” approx would allow sideways movement.
The holes are 1/2” and the slot in the bottom of the Mitre gauge is 25mm on my JTA.
I will turn up a couple of dowels for mine and see if they work ok.
I have some Al or Brass/Copper 1” round bar which I’ll use.
I don’t like making anything from steel for my ‘shop due to rust problems here.
I don’t have any stainless unfortunately as that’s my preferred option.
Can you measure your slot up with vernier to check whether it’s 25mm or 1 inch?

    Default Dowels

    Turned these up in Brass.
    seem ok 25+ and 12.7mm.
Cleaned the holes out with a hand round wire brush.
Any slop is magnified on the gauge.
