Default A few fence issues with Rikon 6” benchtop jointer

Okay, my technique leaves a lot to be desired, and I am working on that, but when I edge joint the Aluminium fence with its ribbed construction makes it very hard to see if the face of the board is flush with it. It might be possible to put a flat MDF fence on the front to get rid of the false shadows, but I would be interested in anybody else's experience.

    regards

Its a case of feeling the wood is in contact with the fence rather than seeing. When jointing an edge you concentrate on keeping contact with the fence more than pressing down. Practice a bit. I guess a bit of board attached to the fence could help stiffen up an aloy fence but you will then loose some of the 6'' width. Melamine or form ply are both slick surfaced.

    Thanks for that.

A lot more practice needed I think.
