Low merbau deck on concrete verandah
Hi
I have a concrete verandah, its only about 3.5m x 1.5m or so.
I bought some merbau to make a deck on it.
I want to make it as low as possible, what is the most narrow timber I would use and the type? Is there an issue with putting the bearers flat so they are not as high, as there will be too large a step from the ground to the deck. Would there be anything wrong with using treated pine decking as bearers underneath as it would make it nice and low, dont know about screws though, it wouldnt be thick enough!
I am a bit stumped (pardon the pun!) as to how to fix the bearers to the concrete also, Ive read to use angle brackets and dynabolt them to the slab, but I was thinking of dynabolting the bearers to the slab and countersinking so the decking doesnt hit the heads of bolts. Also not sure what screws to use for the merbau? I have the merbaur, its not entirely weathered though so I suppose I need to put it out int he weather so I can get rid of all the tannin yeh?
Lots of q's sorry, I prefer to get everything right though, been putting off forever as I am not a chippie at all!!!
thanks a lot in advance
justin
