Hi from a newbie from the Central Coast
Hi Guys
Having spent lots of hours reading so many of the interesting posts I thought that I should join the forum and whilst I wonder if I will ever be able to provide any advice and assistance that so many of the members do one never knows.
I have been a keen if not active woodworker from a very early age encouraged by my father who was a keen woodworker and when he passed away in 2004 (aged 90) he left me his glazed bookcase that he built in 1933 out of solid oak with hidden dovetails etc.
I am wondering in our throw away society what I am going to leave for my children that they will value. I thought it might be the remains of my super but with every passing day that seems less likely so I think it might have to be something more tangible and probably made out of wood!
I have been involved in the IT industry since 1966 but have also played in the manufacturing of office furniture for about 10 years and had an Altendorf F45 as well many other “toys” such as a CNC Biesse Rover 36 and a 345 with tool change etc. I never considered it woodworking because we were using either sawdust glued together (particle board) or a paper derivative (mdf) and most of the skill related to CAD - but it was fun…
So where to now – well I am interested in box making and I am about to start building up my workshop because before I start on the boxes I am due to build a house in July (as an owner builder) and hopefully use this as an excuse to buy some reasonable toys.
I am sure that I will appear on some of your forums asking questions etc because I know from past experience that given an average skill level the only thing that prevents a person from doing something is knowing how.
Looking forward to surfing the forums……
Ps. My name is Jeff but my forum name was given to me by my grandchildren
