Howdy from Newcastle NSW
Hello all, im fairly new to this whole wood working caper but as a rod builder have dabbled in turning reel seats, cork and such.
I have finally bit the bullet and baught a cheapo lathe, its cheap but alot better than an inverted drill press. Its not what i wanted but am cash restricted at the moment.
I hope to learn alot here and rack a few of your brains for information. I pick the lathe up on monday and have already ordered some small blanks and well, cutlery to apease the wife. I thaught smaller easier things like that and repeditive use should hone my skill
Thanks
Dean.

would prefer to show you reel seat hardware and inserts.
Im thinking lessons would be good, just to make sure i dont hurt myself. So if there is anyone near Charlestown in Newcastle that would like to spare an hour or two to show a new chum the ropes so to speak, id be apreciative. I reckon i have a basic understanding but would like some proper detailed one on one.
Im a member of a few hobby forums but damn this is a big one, the sheer volume of posts is astounding, it will take me a year to read through them all, and then another year to analise and absorbe some of it. Termanology is there a wiki??
cheers

If you want to see some good demonstrations on turning this weekend head down to Windsor Trend Timbers either tomorrow or Saturday.
Local Turners groups may also be a good source.

G'Day & Welcome "Dean",
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers crowie
PS - Watch for garage sales & farm clearance sales for good used tolls/machinery to help the budget stretch further...

Welcome to the forum and you are correct this is a big site. I have been a member for a few years now still not read everything.
Do not hesitate to post questions in the wood turning sub forum if you get stuck on something.
