Default Recycled blatic pine - "patina" finish

    Hi all.

I have 4 display cases (again, for antique bottles) to build.

I intend - as the request of the "purchaser" (a loose term for another love job) to use recycled Baltic Pine floor boards for the job.

The thing is, he wants it to look like some other furniture he has out of various pines, which all have that aged patina look.

He doesn't want me to plane and dress the timber to "as new", so I'm looking for a finish (and advice) on how to proceed. Usually, I dress the timber to square and best condition, and coat from there. But he's happy with a few cracks and saw marks.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Have you ever tried "Bitumen stain" which gives a great aged look? - although perhaps better on more open grained timbers than pine. Its made from thinning rubberised bitumen waterproofing goo (Perroid is the brand I have) with turps. It gives a great dirty aged look and is cheap as. It also has the advantage of being very dark in any indentations, scratches etc

    Default bitumen stain

hey sofa man, just wondering where you purchased the bitumen stain from. Do you sanding seal first then bitumen then two top coats? I am using the amaron brand of sprays is that suitable? Also just wondering how much you thin out this product? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks very much
