New Grey Nomads
Hi all. I have been a bad member for the past few months and I apologise for that. I had more surgery in late April, but nothing too serious. The surgeon gave me the OK to travel so on June 2nd, my wonderful husband took me on a surprise 36th wedding anniversary trip. I did not have a clue where we were going until, when an announcement at Bris airport said to make your way to gate whatever, for your flight to Darwin, and Don said "that's us". I was rapt but even more so when we were seated in Business class. Here was Mrs Woodpecker drinking champagne with breakfast 36000 feet up!!!. What a buzz. But there was more to come. Had a day in Darwin, then back to the airport ( still no clue to where I was going) and got a flight to Kununarra. We stayed at a great resort, and on the morning of the 4th, our anniversary, we were picked up and driven back to the airport for a flight over the Bungle Bungles. We landed in the middle of no-where, then got on a helicopter for a closer look at the Bungles. Brilliant!! We then got the flight back to Kununarra for lunch then was taken to Nina's Argyle Diamond Jewellery shop to buy the engagement ring we could not afford 36 years ago. I am now wearing an impressive.74 carat champagne solitaire ring. I have not come back to earth yet.
Now we have been on the road for 6 weeks and have done Kakadu, Litchfield, Darwin places around and in-between and are currently at Adelaide River show grounds. There is a country music muster this weekend so we are staying for that. We head for Mataranka on Monday. Will try to give some up-dates on our travels. Stay well. Shirley

Hope the surgery mends everything Shirley and that you
regain total fitness quickly.
That's all very well drinking champagne, getting a ride in
a chopper and getting the long-awaited engagement ring,
but did he buy you a new hammer and set of chisels etc.
Good luck in your travels.

What a great story!!!Your husband is a real "Gem" (OH! thats corny) I hope you tell all your friends just how wonderful your man is (he paid me to write that)
But seriously, I hope you have a great time and don't have to go back to the surgeon.
We will be watching for you posts on turned objects you have made from timber you have picked up during your travels.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Hi All,
We are currently in Alice Springs. Due to reception, I have not been able to stay in touch as much as I would have liked. We are having an amazing trip, and have seen some incredible scenery. We did a helicopter trip over Katherine Gorge, and then two days later, we did a breakfast cruise, so we saw the gorge from two totally different aspects. Both amazing, and I think the smile is still a mile wide. Alice Springs is a far larger town than we expected and we love it. Such a lot to see. For anyone who wants to do this trip, allow at least a week. We have been here nearly a week, and I think we will extend the trip before we head to Uluru
Got some good news today. I left some turnings with in-laws at Wondai for the Show. I got two firsts and a second, so am quite chuffed with that.
Cheers to you all.
Shirley.
