Advertising mysteries
Why do so many businesses use bikini clad girls to advertise??
Take an ad on the right hand side of our forum page for Get tools
Direct. (Alright, its only a "cartoon" girl )but what does this have to do with
drills, circular saws and power planers??
Similarly for Cars.
Do advertisers really think a scantily clad bint will improve sales?? Can they prove this???

Oh & s
Bikini clad female, despite the hard hat, would fail my health and safety for working on a site, in a workshop or shed.
Either I would not be able to keep my eyes off them so would not concentrate on what I am doing, or they have too much skin exposed risking injury from waste or exposure to the sun.

It works though, if you are a red blooded male you check her out with natural thoughts and if you are a red blooded female you check her out to see what she has that you don't, then you think "what the hell is she advertising anyway?" Job done you are sucked in!

At seventy four and a half I should be, but the only thing that saves me is Add Blocker Plus.

Years ago (2002ish, when I used to still read physical magazines) there was discussion of this very topic in the UK's PC Format Magazine; the vast majority of their covers featured a scantily clad female, occasionally holding something computer related (if the doodad was interesting and photogenic). One or two issues a year had a non female covershot - typically a shot of computer hardware instead.
Every time the Editor of PC Format got a bagging in the letters column about the scantily clad females on the cover, he'd get his answer from the mag's circulation manager; the issues with females on the cover sold an extra 10-15% over the issues without hot females. So they said they'd stop using scantily clad females on the cover when it didn't boost circulation.
Oh, and on that topic...

I don't know if we're in the dark ages, but I feel we are treated like complete neanderthals when it comes to some of the advertising. For myself it creates resentment that they tried to use a hot chick to make me buy something. A lot of the time the insinuation is that if you buy this product the hot females will think the world of you. Are there really so many not so smart guys that go for that. I thought we were a lot wiser in this day and age.
I certainly look at the girls with "natural thoughts" but then most of the time I don't remember what the ad was for. I was too busy focussing on something else. If I do remember then I tell myself not to buy that product simply because they treated me like dumb horny caveman in an attempt to get me to buy it.

Spot on Beefy. I've got no idea what "she" was selling, just blocked it. To me the idea of using cartoon like characters to sell stuff is crazy.
Cheers,
Jim

I like em!
I like em - the scanty clad adds.
At this age - it helps me get my ambitions confused with my capabilities.
My missus asked me the other day - why my facebook page has a string of scanty clad gals adverts down the side...?
I replied "web bots dear"!
You see I deliberately mess with google and facebooks web activity / web surfing tracking of me!.
I deliberately click on all the soft #### adverts - then close the page - without wasting time to read them.
Now just about every facebook page web forum i go to - the side advertising panel is ALWAYS decorated with pretty young things in stages of semi undress.
It costs these purveyors of flesh mega $$$$ to peddle this advertising crap & it costs these web company's mega $$$ to track my web surfing habits via their web bots - while it cost me zero $$$ at all - to WASTE their advertising $$$ to "decorate my page margins" with their expensive adds!
I almost consider it my responsibility to turn their surreptitious efforts back against them.
If enough people did it (and never BOUGHT the product they are selling) their wasted advertising $$$ would eventually send them broke!.
Thats my excuse anyway. Really I'm just an old perv!

MS
I think that pretty much sums it up. It's undeniable. Hugh said exactly the same thing a different way.
Incidentally, I had no idea how much I wanted a plate compacter. I think I would have to go with a wet lease (from my very brief aviation days).

There were power tools in that video????? I musta' missed them!
Trivia: the mags that feature scantily clad men on the cover (ie Men's Health and similar exercise/weightlifting mags) are essentially targeting the gay male demographic.
