Rotten Timber
Hey ya'll,
Got a pretty significant problem in my front windows, namely that they leak... Whilst my window frames are predominantly aluminium, I have timber "dressings" (excuse my ignorance for their real name) between my main sliding window and my bottom window which has rotted badly and needs to be replaced.
Ive thought of pot rivetting some aluminium or something over the top but I think that'll look nasty. Can I just dig all the rotten timber out and replace it with some other timber? What sort of timber would work best for this?
I have attached a photo which will hopefully show what I mean but feel free to ask any clarifying questions needed...

Can't really guage how large the rotten bit is from th pic ... but you can use builders bog if it isn't that large. Also saw another product on TV that seeps in to the rotten secion as a liquid and then sets solid ... may help. Or, you can get any exterior grade wood, carve out the rotten section and glue the new wood in the hole ... then fill any gaps and paint over.

Do a search on Blue 7, it is made by Protim Solignum & I think it's intended to stablise rotted timber.

Might be easiest to just lever that board off and put a new one on.

...and eliminate the cause of the rot.
IIRC, don't alum windows have slots in the bottom channel to drain water away? This water has to go somewhere I guess...

Rip the timber off,and replace it with a bit of branze anodised aluminium.Ask a window manufacturer to cut you some to size.
