    Default Hiya everyone :)

Well I just checked and apparently I joined a while ago and I tried to search to see if I had posted a hello before as i couldn't remember but nothing came up. Obviously if it was that long ago and I can't remember then I needed to do another "Hello" post, so Hi

A little about me, I recently (1yr ago) purchased my first property a 2 bedroom unit. Since then I pulled down the wall between the kitchen and lounge room creating an open plan area. Ripped out the old kitchen and put in a new ikea flat pack which was a first for me. Wasn't that a learning experience! Oh and I went with ikea as that's all I could afford after buying the unit. About a month ago I also installed my first floor, a bamboo click together type. The only other real woodworking I've done is build some fish tank stands from pine and some picture frames from old fence palings.

With my recent limited woodworking projects I discovered that I have a very keen interest in doing and learning more. I have browsed here for hours each night especially in the woodworkers bench area and I must say that I am very impressed and inspired by the quality of work and friendly people on this site.

Im looking forward to learning a whole lot more on here and im also considering doing a course. Although being a full time police officer and a scuba diving instructor on my days off I'm not too sure when that will actually be! HaHa

Looking forward to meeting and chatting with you all soon.

    Cheers
    Occifer Nick

I was starting to get worried my profession was hampering my chances of a reply, 36 views and no reply!

    Welcome Nick,

My next challenge will be to remember your name if you dont sign off on the bottom. As crowie said, cant wait to see some picks of your stuff, kitchen, flooring and what ever projects you decide to challenge.

If you want to meet some of us check this out

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f25/ww...2014-a-170839/

Crowie might be there too. Even if you think you have few skills it will be a great chance to meet some of us and there will be those that are happy to teach you (hands on) how to use a lathe, do wood carving and all sorts of other aspects of wood working

there will be people with al sorts of experience and back grounds there, speaking for myself I'm a carpenter/builder, done lots of reno's and my passion now is wood turning

    regards

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome,

Ive spent most of my day off today watching Paul Sellers youtube videos on building a workbench. I'm not sure what everyone thinks about him but I personally love the guy. Awesome set of videos just wish I had the space to build and set one up. I am planning on taking over the father in laws garage and setting it up as a man cave workshop just need to tell him! Lol

Dave, looks like a very interesting trip and might speak to the wife about it however we have a weeding we are attending in Queensland at the end of January.

I will have to post some of my shonky renos and a photo of me pulling up the floor as I left a little something under it haha

Looking forward to learning from the wealth of knowledge on this site and possibly meeting up with some locals.
    Cheers
    Nick

Actually I have been checking there regularly. I think I will be looking in the $500 area and even though I have seen some negative reviews I think the Makita MLT100 might be for me. Especially if Bunnings honour their 10% price guarantee I should be able to pick it up for $450

    Nick

i am quite new at this wood working stuff too.

I have a mlt100 at the moment but am thinking of upgrading to a Laguna Fusion, so will be looking to get rid of my mlt very soon.

on a side note, where abouts are you stationed at if you don't mind me asking?

Hope you're single Nick, as setting up a tablesaw in a unit isn't too conducive to a long marriage.

I don't think anyone here really cares too much about your occupation though. We are all obsessively preoccupied with timber! You always get lots of views as there are many lurkers.

Yes, you must go to the syd WWS, you'll kick yourself if you miss it.
