    Default sanding hardwood floor

    Hi knowledgeable forum people,

We're sanding an old Tasi Oak floor as we speak and are going to stain tomorrow followed by sealing on Monday with Whittle Wax.
We were intending to sand down to a 120 grit before applying the stain, however now we're having second thoughts and are thinking of finishing at 100. This would take the stain better, however we're not sure whether it will have much affect on the final satin finish.

The other suggestion we came across was to sand down to 120 and then do a final sand at 100 before applying the stain, however we're not sure if this is defeating the purpose of sanding down to 120 in the first place?

    Any suggestions or advice?

    PS. where's the spill cheecker?

I would follow the instructions on your stain/finish product.

FWIW Sanding to 120 and then back to 100 is a waste of time. I would go for a single final 120 sanding - period. If you apply the stain after the 100, you should sand to 120 anyway before you apply the finish, This means you might remove too much colour.
