Hello,

A quick question - can ridgeboars be resting on ceiling joists? From my limited carpentry knowledge I remember that ridgeboard does not actually carry any load, the walls do.

In the pic I am showing that ridgeboard is resting on a board that is laid across two ceiling joists. And it is not directly above the wall, appr. half a meter from it. Is this practice normal? The house is brick veneer built in the 50's.

Should I do something about it? I am moving a few walls around, plaster is down, so if it is a bad practice now would be a good time to fix it.

thanks
