    Default Direct Marketing Association

I just got yet another phone sales call and it reminded me to contact the DMA to register on their 'Do Not Contact Service' I thought I would post the details here if there is anyone out there who doesn't know about the service.
If you do fill in the online form don't fill in the email address. It's like giving a box of matches to an arsonist.
It does work but you have to do it again as soon as the calls start happening a few months later.

The Direct Marketing Association is a complete waste of space. For starters, most direct marketers are not members. Secondly, they are there to look after the marketers, not their victims.

And in an ultimate irony, they won't sell you a list of their members so you can contact them to tell them that you now charge for listening to their speil.

And I quote from their FAQ:

    7. Do You Really Want to Get Off Mailing Lists?
If your name goes on ADMA's Do Not Mail Service you will no longer receive mailings about magazines that may interest you. Many discount coupons and offers that save you money at the stores will stop coming. So will the catalogues that make holiday shopping easier. No more free product samples. And no more offers of new books, new records and tapes, new products at good prices that you may want.

"For many people advertising mail is fun, informative, and a convenience. It gives you time to consider a purchase carefully without any sales pressure. You can make your selections and order from your home at any hour of the day or night, any day of the week. If a piece of mail doesn't interest you, simply toss it into the recycling bin. The choice is yours."

    Haha!
    Cheers,

    Adam

I only posted the info because it was worth it for me.
The DMA have over 500 members and if you can get excluded from their database anything is better than nothing.
I registered over a year ago when I was getting about 5-10 calls every day and I have only just started getting calls again.

The latest thing seems to be mobile phone based telemarketers. We seem to get calls from people who are on their mobile and I can hear city noises in the background. I imagine that they have to make (Say) 50 calls per day and just fit them in whenever they have a spare minute.

If I ever see/hear one of these people on the train, I"ll, I'll I'll......staer at them but be too chicken to say anything.
    Cheers,

    Adam

Thats why they keep doing it, if every telemarketer got a good beating, then we wouldnt have to suffer from them.

    LineLefty, its all your fault.
