Default First Bandsaw - blade stalls in cut

Hi I got my first bandsaw today, it is a Axminster AWSBS2.

Ihave it all set up now i think, and have replaced the blade with a new one of 3/8" 4TPI. However, the saw seems to struggle to cut even quite thin timber, and the blade often stalls in the cut. At first it was struggling to even cut some 8mm ply i was prctising with, but i increased the tension and now it can cut that.

Next i tried some 3 - 4cm ish thick ash plank (cutting with the grain) and it barely makes a start to the cut before it grinds to a halt, and this is with only a very light feed. Is this saw just too underpowered to cut this (i wouldent have thought this was the case), or should i change the settings, maybe crank the tension up some more?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Is the motor itself stalling or just the blades, with these 2 speeds, there is a tension screw or adjustment for the motor pulley, it might be slipping there?
    Cheers

Sounds like DJ's Timber and ptc advice is correct.

If you wish to expand your research and broaden your knowledge of bandsaws and blades have a look at Bandsaws and Blades information sites.
