Shortening a power cord
I have just installed a fan inside a chimney...it's actually an exhaust fan sitting above a stove. The stove sits inside an old fireplace/chimney in the kitchen area. The smoke and steam up until now just found it's own way up the chimney...not a great method.
So I have installed the exhaust fan...problem is the power. The power point is actually on the other side of the chimney wall (on the left hand side). So I need to pass the power cord through the brick wall and then plug into a socket.
My question is, can I easily take the end off the power cord on the fan - pass the cord through a small hole in the wall, then re-attach the end? I don't want to drill a big hole so the whole plug can fit through.
Is this a DIY job or should I get an electician to do this?
