    Default Retic and roots question

Found one of the 20mm retic branches in the side garden had a major leak.

Pipe was laid about 20 years ago when adjacent tree was the diameter of a forearm.
Now a large root (R) has grown under the pipe and lifted the pipe , pulling it out of a 45º junction.

My question to the brains trust is -
To rejoin the pipe, should I (steering clear of the root) go over the root ie up and out of the ground over the top of the root, with some sort of inverted U
    OR
Try to get under the root? ie lots of work. As I also need to get the pipe under another root at R1

I don't mind if the U shows above the ground as it will mostly be behind the trunk and there will be lots of low shrubs hiding it anyway.
