    Default hoop pine finish

    hey guys,

I am making a a bathroom bench top from hoop pine T & G flooring.
Its cheap and essentially part of my povo restoration after the floods.

There are no cupboards but shelves below and on the tiled wall .I am planning on using oiled merbah slats over stainless brackets for the shelf slats.

I want to finish it with a distressed antique look .

What could you recommend that will stand up against the splash from the sink bowl .

I had thoughts on an oiled finish for the hoop pine and sealing it with a super beaut wax product.

Any advice on the pros and cons of this ?

    Thanks

I've just finished a pair of display saw horses in hoop and used tung oil (3 roller coats with progressively lighter sanding between coats). I was quite impressed with the look particularly after 2nd coat. Doesn't change the intrinsic hoop pine colour but just puts a very subtle gold hue on it. Not sure about regular splash back and tung oil though. Good ol' cabothane (again 3 coats with light sanding) would certainly be impervious to splash back. Unable to assist with ubeaut wax over oil but definitely need to think about regular abrasion (cleaning the bathroom) and wax.

Hi grahame , have a look at the whittle wax range of products .Treatex traditional is a floor covering finish but might have the qualities you need for your spash back . unfortunatly they do not have a supplier in wa so i have not been able to try them out .Another suggestion is liberon finishing oil .
