I'm considering changing my rotten timber windows over to aluminium in my brick veneer home. Doing my 'homework' it seems from the brochure--

The stud opening must be 60mm wider than the brickwork opening, I haven't figured out the height difference yet.

Having timber windows I find both inner and outer openings about the same -- once allowing for the gyprock reveal. The studs each side of the opening (I will have to check if they are doubles) I think hold up a timber lintel. Is there an alternative installation method, without making the window smaller overall and smaller than the brickwork opening, and then having to patch it with bits of powder coated angle?

The 'salesman' muttered something about removing the 'fin', which would allow the window to slide in, but (I assume) one would then have to somehow fix the frame to the brickwork, or timber blocks jammed in the cavity. Would this also make finishing the inside reveals tricky?

I have installed aluminium windows many years ago on double brick but that was whole different ballgame.

Thanks in advance for your advice
