    Default New Double Hung Windows

    Hi All

I have just started fitting a couple of new double hung windows. Being new they have a plastic channel covering each side, which I guess conceals springs instead of the old sash weights. However on a normal window I would fit it in the opening, pack between the studs and window and put a few nails through each side.

How are you meant to fix these when they have plastic up each side? They didn't come with any 'useful' installation instructions (although they were keen to point out that you shouldn't stand on the windows) !!

    Any experience with these?

I think you'll find they are sash balances usually "Unique " brand, are they fitted with a small bracket on the end? If so you have to tension them to ensure the window will slide up and down correctly, look up Google if you have any queries.

I'm in Vic but I got mine at Trend windows. They are OK ... if you want real old style ones that are great quality get them hand made.

Mine are OK but you get what you pay for.
