    Default New build

I am currently building and am planning to have a timber floor. I'd appreciate any info at all in regards to which type of wood would suit best.
I would like to use a black stain ie: black japan.
The harder the wood, the more expensive and will be least likely to take up the stain.
I would like it to be very glossy and with a very slick finish. Is there a coating anyone can recommend for this.
Could anyone give me a rough idea in regards to cost too.

Also I have big plans for custom furniture. Would love to find someone who has time and energy to work with me on a couple of custom pieces for my home. A console table and lounge chair base.
    I live in Penrith NSW.
    Kind regards,
    Katherine

Hi and welcome, don't know much about timber flooring but the timber floors I had in previous homes were natural timber and not stained but finished with a high gloss Polyurathane type finish. Some useful tips can be found Here about timber flooring.Good luck with your projects. I am sure someone will offer to help you out. I am too far away myself but I know a few members of the forum live in the Penrith area.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

In answer to your question might I suggest bitumen?
