    Default Hollow bookshelves

I am making a couple of bookcases and I want to use torsion box for the shelves. We all know that they are more stable and much strong than solid wood. The question is how strong is strong enough for a 95cm shelf?

The only way to find out is to make a sample. This one is made from a 15mm thick Oregon frame and two 6mm Oak layers.

The result is excellent. The shelf is strong enough to support a 11 yr old and a 7 yr old, and I have no doubt it can take more weight.

How thick is the shelf Wongo? You may well be able to use thinner timber for the frame, top and bottom, providing that the thickness of the shelf is adequate, and the glue is strong.

That answer could have been easier by putting all your own weight on a door Wongo
