Foundation options for a smaller garden shed
Hi. I'm thinking about building a garden shed. I'm thinking I'll probably build it myself due to wanting something that compliments the look of our house rather then the prefabricated stuff. It'll probably be timber frame construction - lined inside and out, with 240 volt power. Probably about 10 sq metre. I'm very keen that it be an exempt development, so I don't have to negotiate with council for approval. We live in north west Sydney.
My big area of uncertainty is about the types of foundation I could use. I've researched this via google, but most of the information I find is American, so I'm wondering how this applies to Australia.
I find options for small sheds seem to be the following:
1. frame on ground (a rectangular treated pine frame sitting either on undisturbed ground or on a gravel bed).
2. skids (two 4x4 or 6x6 treated pine runners sitting either on undisturbed ground or gravel bed)
3. concrete blocks (concrete blocks sitting on the ground, with wooden frame sitting on the blocks)
4. cast-on-site piers
5. concrete slab
so my question is, is there any reason why any of these methods cant be/shouldn't be used in NSW ?
cheers
Arron
