I got gas
Well, the Falchoon's running on LPG now (what did you think I meant :confused: )
A Landi system was fitted to her on tuesday. This system was chosen after about a billion phone calls ... this bloke mentioned the magic word 'towing'. Apparently it's very good for towing. Anyways, the gas is on and by my calculations, will have paid for itself in eighteen months, probably less with the amount of driving I have to do now. Of more use to me is the weekly fuel bill - I filled up and it cost me a bit over $35, I'm used to a fill up costing me over $70 :eek: Sure, there'll be a drop off in economy but initial use suggests this'll be around the 10% mark and in normal driving, I haven't noticed any loss of performance (with a big six, it'd soak up any loss).

Way to go Daddles, you will enjoy it every time your drop in and spend some small change as the petrol mob queue up for a petrol loan from the auto loan machines.

I bought a duel fuel Fairmont six months ago and the price of LPG has gone from 35.9c to 53.9 in that time, is this blatant profiteering or what? Wish we could sell our waste product(shavings & sawdust) like this!
However I'm still way in front on running costs.Jack the Lad.

I miss having the old commodore which had LPG I mostly use the train now, but I notice the increased cost when I need to drive into work. I remember how I used to whinge when the price got up to 33c/litre
Note sure if it would be worthwhile to me to have LPG fitted to the new car, not that I really having the funding for it.Brett

I have hidden the cost by doing a salary sacrifice on the Calais, just hand over the BP Card and don't worry about the price as it's taken care of by the sal sac people. I know I'm still paying but with a tax cut and I don't have to find the money in my wallet every time.
I remember paying 40 cents when I started to ride motorbikes but that was for a gallon, anyone remember gallons??????

Yeah but the new design Galleons, made from hoop ply and puddleduck plans, get great mileage or is that kilometreage?
I yen for petrol that cheap......................

G'day Daddles,
Did you decide to run duel fuel, of did you do a complete change over?
If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for the conversion? Was it WIWO, or did you do some things yourself?
We have an AU falcon and are in the quandry of sell for a smaller car, or put it on gas because $75 a week for fuel is really draining the budget.
Also do you know if the gas people do conversions for smaller cars, because I guess we could bite the bullet, sell the falcon, buy a smaller car, put it on gas and reap the duel benefit. I guess power loss in a smaller car might be more noticable though.

If you go the full gas route better hope you don't run out. It's a bit harder to sort out a jerry can full of LPG.

G'day Shannon,
Went for dual fuel - LPG is only available almost everywhere - I like the idea of a bit of flexibility and the doubled range isn't bad either. Didn't even ask about LPG only.
The AUII (and I think the AU is the same) is done with a donut tank in the spare wheel well and the spare wheel taking up space in the luggage compartment - that's with the wagon, not sure about the sedan. Some blokes claimed this is the only way you can do it, the bloke I went to was happy to put a tank in the luggage compartment if I wanted - I went for the donut tank.
Cost me $2,700. I was quoted a lot of prices and fed a lot of &&&&&&&&. This was put in by a big, reputable speed shop who talked sense and was the only bloke to talk about towing ability. Mind you, he was only one selling the Landi system and one of it's features is being better for towing than the AMG - the other popular brand (and cheaper). IMPCO which used to be the standard is pretty much scorned now.
Availability varied from 'next week' (the bloke I went to and a few others) through to 'we're booked up until end of April' - that latter from the biggest bull&&&&ter of the lot.
I reckon it's going to take me about eighteen months to pay it off. Seeing I'm planning to run the car into the ground, that makes economic sense to me. I wouldn't do it for short term ownership. I also considered buying a smaller car but nothing you can buy for 2 1/2 grand is going to give me twice the mileage of the Falcon which is what it would have to do to make it worth while (I can't get rid of the Falcon because I need that sized car on quite a few occasions).
