Salvaged Pier Timber Identification
Hello All,
Can you help identify this sample? It came from shipping piers along the Melbourne waterfront and is likely around 100 years old. Its been submerged a long time in the bay judging from the smell. I've wet the sample in this image to help show the grain.
Much appreciated!

Could well be Tallowwood. It was often used for piers in water due to itsrot resisting propertiess and its strength.

thanks all for the quick response. I'll go with Tallowood! I'll let you know what kind of slabes we get once milling begins in august. Should be interesting!
