Default Blackbutt kitchen bench top - heat resistance?

    Hi,
I've got a beautiful solid blackbutt benchtop with a hard wearing floor lacquer finish. We are very happy with the performance (after 6 month), no water stains, and it seems to be sealed perfectly as there are no water marks or anything even around the sink.

The only thing me and the girl are unsure about is how heat resistant the bench top is. She has seen marks on a wooden table somewhere and reckons a hot cup of tea can stain or burn it. I reckon that cups are ok. Needless to say that we never put anything that comes from stove/oven/microwave on the bench top.

    Can anyone resolve the issue?
    thanks in advance

A thick polyurethane finish should be right with anything you can hold with your hand - so if it's at 'ouch ouch ouch gotta put this down' temperature, I'd use a mat.

Usually markings in it are related more to combined water and heat damage on a thin, sprayed on finish, and yes, I have coffee-cup-marked a (sprayed-on) poly finish. Ooops.
