Rookie mistake - ordered wrong window reveal size (how to fix)
Hi,
When ordering windows for my extension and to replace 2 existing windows, I didn't pay attention to the reveal size and ended up being supplied 118mm reveals for a brick-veneer house with 90mm studs. Not until I have installed the replacement windows that I have noticed that there is now a gap between the brickwork and the window frame. I will cover these gaps with some aluminium angle and move on.
For the extension windows, however, I am hoping (based on taking a few measurements), that the window frames will just make it to the brickwork, but I am tossing up whether I should rectify the problem now by taking out the windows from where they presently sit in the unclad frame and replace the reveals with the correct size (138mm). This would be about a days' work for me to replace reveals on 5 1.8m x 1.2m windows.
Just wondering what others would do from these or other options:
1. Hope the window frame meets the brickwork and cover with aluminium angle if necessary.
2. Replace the 118mm reveals with 138mm reveals now.
3. Push windows with current reveals out 20mm to meet brickwork and extend reveal by butting 20mm extension on inside edge of reveal and filling/painting join.
Any other options??
Just quietly....I'm a bit p'd at the window company for not taking the time to confirm the building type before supplying the specs, but I'm aware that it's my responsibility to check these things, too.
Thanks for any input.
Paul
