    Default Rusty paint

It has to be Rusty said she, so I set out to find Rusty paint, the staff at Bunnings looked at me as though I had two heads when I asked them for Rusty paint.

I was shown all the usual Anti Rust paints, even against my protests that I "want" to paint it rusty.
    They didnt get it.

    So onto the internet.

Haymes from Ballarat do Rusty Paint so I tracked down some and gave it a try, what a waste of $100.
$50 for the paint and $50 for the reactor, it goes a sort of puce colour but not what Id call rusty.

    Next try Porters Paints.

And here are the results, same price but this stuff really works and can be painted onto anything.
It ages and gets better with time too.

    Al

PS. The paint is just dark brown water based paint with Iron filings in it and the reactor is weak Hydrocloric acid.

Anyone know a supplier of Iron filings?

    G'day AL,
I bought a kilo of Iron Filings, and the result was that the object looked like it had measles.......not enough Iron filings......or the local thought up here is that Iron Powder or Iron Oxide is also in the base paint, hence it all turns rusty when hit with the acid.
Here's a pic of what Ren did with some of your "body parts"

    Good one Noel.

    Ill try the Iron Oxide.

Good photography too with the manikin against the mist.

I used some Porters today and sprayed it with some Hydro acid 33%, the spray gun disintegrated!! it was only a cheap $2 pump one

There is a bloke who is an artist in Cairns & he has has a late model commodore wagon turned into a Pvan & painted with rusty paint to look like something out of Mad Max.

We also have a concrete sculptor in the garden that came coated in rusty paint.
The bloke that makes them also has bronze paint the corrodes like a real bronze statue.

It does exist, I just don't know where to get it from.

And just so's we don't get caught driveling......I also think that red ochre from artist supply houses may be a mixable form of iron powder.........any chemists in the house??

As promised some Porters Copper paint, it works a treat, the dude in the picture has been staring at them weeds for weeks, they must be some good weeds..

The Bronze effect can be buffed to give it a more gooderer look if you have the time.

Sorry my mistake, the Copper paint is from Haymes and works a treat, which is even more of a mystery as to why the Iron paint from them dont work.

I have some Iron filings and will be experimenting with them, Ill keep you posted.
